My Song
Looking at My Song's lyrics, it isn't too opaque what it's about. As macabre as it sounds, the original idea was "Which song would you like to have played in your funeral?". Despite the starting point, the story is clearly positive. Music survives even death and retains the memories. Most of the composition came about in 2002 and remained waiting for the right arrangement. Finally it got a light orchestral one and ended up on the Red Light Stop Sign album (2006).
When selecting songs for Snowclone, MS was an obvious choice. The arrangement, however, wasn't found that easily. We wouldn't even attempt at orchestral anymore, because (as our producer put it) "If you want to sound like a symphony orchestra, you've got to be one". Many options were gone through, including a "Nylon Beat" version, which was something quite different (and which will probably be recycled for a future production). Eventually, Tero got the openminded idea of a heavy rock ballad, which proved to be most suitable a concept indeed. In addition to our producer the drummer, we borrowed a real guitarist, and the genuineness generated by actual musicians can clearly be heard in the song.
You hear my song though I have gone
Wish we could have stayed as one
I left it play through night and day
Reminding you of who I was
If you still care
Don't let memories drift away
That way I'll stay
You hear my song, the only one
Sing along for days begone
Don't be afraid of letting go
As long as you know
Though I'm not here, I'm somewhere near
Not far away in a way, some day
You're just standing there and wondering why
Why don't you join the last party of mine
Hold back your fears and be free
You hear my song though I have gone
Wish we could have stayed as one
I left it play through night and day
Reminding you of who I was
If you still care
Don't let memories drift away
That way I'll stay
You hear my song, the only one
Sing along for days begone
Don't be afraid of letting go
As long as you know
There will be my song
No matter how long I'm gone
Living on through my song
There will be my song
No matter how long I'm gone
Living on through my song
